CONVERT "FAT" FILESYSTEM TO "NTFS" WITHOUT FORMATTING THE COMPUTER

NTFS and FAT are two file system which are using by Windows. FAT16 was the filesystem which are started using by MS DOS. Compatibility with Windows 95/98/Me/OS2, Linux etc. is the peculiarity of this filesystem. But it has a great disadvantage. Only a limited number of clusters are allowed in each partition. Thus whenever the capacity of hard disk increases or size of partition, the size of clusters will be also increases and disk usage increases. Also compression, encryption etc. are also not supported in this filesystem. FAT32 filesystem was started with Windows 95 service pack 2. Eventhough FAT32 allows more number of clusters, still it have all other disadvantages of FAT16. NTFS filesystem was started with Windows NT. NTFS is completely different from FAT. But it not supported with some other OS. Booting in Dos mode willnot support NTFS. Still NTFS have more Security support, Encryption support, Compression, speed etc.

If you want, you can convert from FAT16 or FAT32 to NTFS anytime, but going back is not easy. To do this,
Open Command prompt(Start >run >cmd> OK)
Now "CONVERT" command can be given. If you give command as "CONVERT D:/FS:NTFS" , D-drive will be converted to NTFS from FAT.

Note: This have a very very less chance of losing your data. But taking a backup is safe.
